Montana Heart Surgery Outcomes
Montana Heart’s coronary bypass surgeries consistently have lower mortality rates than the national rates compiled by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and compare favorably with the rates published by heart centers recognized for their excellent surgical outcomes.

The graph below shows the outcomes of all major cardiac procedures, including CABG, valve repair and replacements, reoperations, and combined procedures. Montana Heart had lower rates than the national rates compiled by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, as well as the rates published by heart centers of national prominence.

U.S. News and World Report published their 2009 – 2010 review of hospitals that provided heart surgery in the United States. Their ratings were based on outcomes of patients undergoing coronary artery bypass during the years 2005 – 2007. Montana Heart at Benefis Health Care was rated the best provider of cardiac surgery in the State of Montana. The Cleveland Clinic was rated the overall number one heart program in the USA based on excellent outcomes as well national recognition and other intangibles. When surgical outcomes alone are considered, Montana Heart compares very favorably with the number one program in the USA.
